NEO RYSIO PRIMARY SCHOOL- WORKSHOP ON TOUCH

4th grade students participated in a workshop involving activities which enhance and   emphasize the significance of the sense of touch .We worked on clay , created our own works ( decorative roof ornaments – typical of Ancient Greek architecture ). We sensed the feeling of creating just by using our palms , listening to whispers from the clay (!!) with eyes closed , simply following guidance from the sense of touch straight to our brain and soul!!

Mrs. “Befana” has come to school.

Mrs. “Befana” has come to school.

During the night between 5th and 6th January in Italy Befana enters the houses of children to put sweets and little toys into the stockings they have hang up at the foot of their beds in the evening. If they were a little bit naughty they receive  lumps of coal.
The tradition says that Befana looks like an old awful woman wearing old ragged cloths and riding a flying broom.

It’s a pagan tradition wich falls on the same date the three Wise Men , according the catholic tradition , bring gifts to the Holy Infant.

Yesterday Befana visited also the school of Sermoneta Scalo to give children stockings full of sweets and chocolates: nobody was naughty!

olive-treeThe olive tree was a sacred tree and a ritual symbol in Ancient Greece. It symbolized peace , prosperity , resurrection and hope.

Neo Rysio Primary School -Opera at Thessaloniki Concert Hall

E class students visited  The Concert Hall  and attended the opera “The Barber of Seville” It was a play by Caron de Beaumarchais  who became famous when the Italian composer Gioachino Rossini chose to present it as an opera.

“The Barber of Seville” is not a fairy tale.It is a project that contains all the ingredients of a recipe for a perfect musical tale.  It is an interesting plot , full of magic ,realism and humour. The idea was to transform the opera in a play for children with songs inspired by the beautiful melodies of Rossini, so the  children are acquainted with sounds of classical music. Sounds so necessary for the cultivation of the musical sensor ”

The project is adapted with the utmost caution, keeping the more melodic parts of opera and converts arias and vocal ensembles,  creating a beautiful musical theatrical image. All these joined together with narrative, theatrical dialogues, dancing stage equipment and colourful costumes hold the interest of the children at its peak to the last moment.

We all had a wonderfull time and had the chance to explore our senses – hearing , seeing , touching ….. we even tasted the flavor of success at the end of the performance !!!
